Before you order a design: five questions
Simple answers to prepare before you message any designer. They save time on both sides.
Most requests that drag on start with an idea that wasn’t clear. Before you send yours, answer these five questions.
1. Who will see it?
“Everyone” isn’t an answer. Describe your audience: their age, interests, and where they’ll see the design.
2. Where will it be used?
A logo on a shop sign is different from a logo inside an app icon. List every place: phone, print, signage, social media.
3. Which examples do you like?
Collect three examples you like and three you don’t, from any field, and send them with your request. Examples explain an idea better than any description.
4. What exactly do you need?
Just a logo, or a logo with colors, fonts and templates? Write the full list.
5. When do you need it?
If you have a fixed date, mention it in your first message.
Send your answers with your request as they are, even as quick bullet points.
